If you're a car owner, you've likely dealt with this problem before: The dreaded windshield and auto glass scratch. Your car's windows are the most vulnerable part of your vehicle — and all it takes is one rock or bug to cause an unsightly blemish that can be tough to remove.

You can do some things at home without spending any money, but if those don't work, these tips will help get rid of those pesky scratches.

 1.  Buff It Out

There are several different products that you can use to buff out scratches on your windshield and auto glass. There's a variety of products available, from liquids, sprays, polishes, and more.

You can find them at any car dealership or do-it-yourself store.

2.  Use Nail Polish

Believe it or not, you can use nail polish to help get rid of scratches on auto glass. You'll need clear nail polish. Apply the clear coat over the scratch. Let it dry.

3.  Use Paste Wax

Paste wax is a great way to help cover up those scratches. Waxing your windshield and auto glass can sometimes leave streaks, though, so this method may not be as effective as others.

However, if you like to give it a shot, all you need is a little bit of water-based paste wax and some microfiber cloth or towels. After applying the wax, dry it off and buff it with a clean microfiber cloth.

4.  Use Toothpaste!

Believe it or not, you can use toothpaste to remove minor scratches on auto glass and windshields! Squeeze some toothpaste onto an old rag and rub the scratch out in a circular motion. Rinse it off with water and then buff it dry.

5.  Use Peanut Oil

For this method, all you need is some peanut oil and a clean cloth. Dip the fabric in the oil and rub out the scratch until it disappears.

This works because peanut oil doesn't contain any chemicals that can damage your windshield — be sure to get the oil and cloth completely off the window.

You might not think about it much, but minor scratches on your car's windshield or other glass surfaces can detract from the appearance of your vehicle.

Fortunately, there are several different methods you can employ to remove them yourself without having to visit an auto glass replacement shop!
